I was thinking today that I need to get back to finish posting about some of the details of my own wedding that I never really got around to, and I thought that Gary needed a post about his wedding day attire. I mean everyone makes such a fuss over what the bride wears but what about the equally important yet perhaps slightly less visible groom?

A couple of months before our wedding, I asked Gary to go out and buy a “nice, black suit”. I didn’t really care if he wore a tux or not and I just couldn’t see him going out and renting one…it’s just not him. So I figured if he got a gorgeous black suit, he could wear it over and over again and wouldn’t that be nice. So Gary and my brother Michael (who is also Gary’s best friend) went shopping one day, they hit up some of the usual suspects like Hugo Boss and other mens’ stores that I’m completely unaware of. They drank beers and had a nice male bonding day. Then Gary came home and announced “I bought a tuxedo from John Varvatos!” I was a little in shock at first because never did I imagine he would actually buy a tuxedo. Living in LA, you just don’t dress up very often. And our version of dressing up tends to be just putting on as many semi-ridiculous items until you look almost silly but in a cool way. So a tuxedo? Okay.

A couple of weeks later, I went to the John Varvatos store with Gary to pick up the tux. He tried it on for me and it was gorgeous! That was the moment I decided no boutonnieres…there was no way I was going to have someone pin a big, dumb flower on that gorgeous skinny lapel. While we were there, we also picked up a pin-stripe vest so there could be somewhat of a costume change before the reception and a pair of super cool John Varvatos rubber Chuck Taylors to complete the look.

So here are a few pictures of the whole look (all by Greg Gibson)

There were 2 groomsmen & the officiant was a good friend of ours. All of the men selected their own attire, no rentals.
