Alexander McQueen today announced the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand has been found dead at his home. As the fashion father of unconvention, Mr. McQueen’s ability to push the boundries of Couture will remain Unforgettable. Your inspiration will be missed.

One of my favorite wedding portraits of all time. The Arnolfini Wedding by Jan van Eyck is one of the most original and complex paintings of all time. Just check out that reflection in the mirror. Also felt like a perfect inspiration for our latest style board. All those rich Fall colors, velvet and gold and yum.

Inspiration Board: Day of the Dead

Living here in Los Angeles, El Dia de los Muertos or The Day of the Dead feels like a bigger holiday than Halloween itself. It definitely makes for a more interesting inspiration board. It is not just about the skulls. Vintage mexican inspired wedding dresses, giant red roses and gorgeous red Christian Louboutin peep toe shoes, give a new meaning to “Til Death Do We Part”.

Marrying a musician could have made choosing a song to walk down the aisle a little more challenging. Luckily, we both agreed immediately to use the theme from Cinema Paradiso. My husband wrote a beautiful arrangement for an amazing guitar player and friend who played it live during our ceremony. The music surrounding both your marriage and the reception are such fabulous mood setters, and another way to express your love. Justine herself sauntered down the aisle to The Luckiest by Ben Folds, and she and Gary took their first steps together as man and wife to…well you might have guessed it…Back in Black. We’ve all seen the You Tube video of Jill and Kevin Heinz and their bridal party dancing down the aisle to Chris Brown. Whatever song you choose, just make it meaningful and memorable. Fashionista Friday: ETSY My New Brooklyn

I am guest blogging for the ever fabulous Bethany Winters, our Fashion Contributor today. Contributing for our Contributor, is that a Victor/Victoria thing? I’ll do my best. The thing I miss most about living in Brooklyn was the little boutique clothing shops that would sell their own line of amazingly beautiful unique clothes. I used to frequent a shop on Smith Street called Frida’s Closet and purchase numbered (like fine art editions) pieces from the designer Sandra Paez. Sadly, Brooklyn is now thousands of miles away. Luckily ETSY has put many of these individual fashion designers at our finger tips. Just this weekend I found a designer out of China who is custom tailoring three of her pieces for me. I sent her my measurements, and chose the fabrics. I can guarantee none of my friends will show up to a party in one of fabulous designs. Nothing can make you feel more special and help you express your unique style.

From time to time we will be featuring individual designers from ETSY or other marketplaces. Please feel free to submit your designs for our review, perhaps yours can be featured also. Our first, is a designer named Emma Read, she has a shop on ETSY called Hapitat. She makes beautiful flowers for your hair or lapel from recycled bits of fabrics, leather and lace. Gorgeous and Green we LOVE it!
