AnxietySongs+Albums

Our guest blogger and resident musicologist (also known as my hubby), has created a great list of some anxiety ridden songs for the eve before your wedding. Play them at your rehearsal dinner or request a few from the jukebox as you celebrate your last hours of being single. Nothin’ but lovesongs on your wedding day, but the day before… Here are some tunes to do a knock-kneed dance to, or just to have a laugh.

Mad World – Tears For Fears

Overkill – Men At Work

Shotgun Down The Avalanche – Shawn colvin

Paranoid Android – radiohead

I Wanna Get Married – Nellie McKay

Your Wife Is Cheatin On Us Again  – Wayne Kemp

You’re the Reason Our Kids Are Ugly – Loretta Lynne

Here’s another songlist from our wedding musicologist in residence. Our UnBride first dance list. Sometimes it is helpful to have an alternative to “At Last” and “Our Love Is Here To Stay”. Of course your choice could be poignant, or a little tongue and cheek. Did your fiance pull a “Lloyd Dobler“, and hold a boombox over his head, volume on 10, until you forgave him? Then perhaps “In Your Eyes” would be a good choice. Did you see your future bride across a crowded bar slinging drinks, then we think “Don’t You Want Me” is the perfect song to boogie to. Here’s a few that are music to our ears. Leave a comment and let us know, what was your first dance?

“True Companion” Marc Cohn

“Chasing Cars” Snow Patrol

“Highway to Hell” AC/DC

“Better Together” Jack Johnson

“Just Can’t Get Enough” Depeche Mode

“For Once In My Life” Stevie Wonder

“Romeo and Juliet” Dire Straits

“Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic”  The Police

Marrying a musician could have made choosing a song to walk down the aisle a little more challenging. Luckily, we both agreed immediately to use the theme from Cinema Paradiso. My husband wrote a beautiful arrangement for an amazing guitar player and friend who played it live during our ceremony. The music surrounding both your marriage and the reception are such fabulous mood setters, and another way to express your love. Justine herself sauntered down the aisle to The Luckiest by Ben Folds, and she and Gary took their first steps together as man and wife to…well you might have guessed it…Back in Black. We’ve all seen the You Tube video of Jill and Kevin Heinz and their bridal party dancing down the aisle to Chris Brown. Whatever song you choose, just make it meaningful and memorable. Below are a list of a few suggestions to get your ears poppin’. And that video one more time, just because it makes us smile.

Secret Heart – Ron Sexsmith

Yellow – Coldplay

Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic – Police

I Don’t Know Why – Shawn Colvin

Closer – Nine Inch Nails

Shook Me All Night Long – AC/DC

Do You Realize – Flaming Lips

I Will Follow You Into The Dark – Death Cab For Cutie

All I Need – Radiohead

Today I bring you yet another performance video from our wedding. For those of you who don’t know, Gary is a Production Designer for tv shows and he has a crew of some of the most talented people we know helping him to make magic happen every day. Two of those very special people from Gary’s art department are Josh an Shane who actually learned how to play the ukulele especially for our wedding. They are not professional musicians but the performance was just beautiful. Enjoy!

Watch the video.

Our wedding videographers, Monachetti are so awesome that they just sent us separate clips from the 3 different music performances that we had at our wedding, complete with the audio. It’s like reliving the day all over again…just amazing. Here’s the first one, we asked our friend Lisa to sing “First Day of My Life” by Bright Eyes. It was just SO beautiful, we cried through the whole thing. Hope you enjoy!

I was just re-reading some old posts and I realized that I promised to publish the list of our wedding soundtrack that we included in the hotel welcome bags. It really is a fantastic soundtrack if I do say so myself. 7 of these songs are either written and/ or performed by good friends of ours so that makes them even more special to us.

Our parents & Gary walked down the aisle to “Here Comes Your Man”, the bridesmaids & flower girls walked to “Into Your Arms” and my dad and I walked to “The Luckiest”.  Our dear friend Lisa Loeb sang “First Day of My Life” during the ceremony which was just unbelievably beautiful and emotional. After our first kiss, the dj kicked off the recessional with “Back in Black”.

We did a crazy choreographed first dance to “We Belong” to kick off the reception. And at one point our friend Kara sang “Pieces of Me” which she wrote. At the end of the night we invited all of our musician friends on stage to sing “You Shook Me All Night Long” with the band. All of the other songs were either played during the reception or cocktail hour.

The music really helped to set the tone for a really personal, emotional experience and an atmosphere that was really “us”. I highly recommend giving your music choices some real thought…it made all the difference for us. :)

Considering the fact that I have been to WAY too many weddings and heard the same songs over and over again, if I hear the same music at my own wedding, I just might lose it. So, when it came to selecting a band, I knew there was only one way for me to go…totally ’80’s! Considering the fact that I just can’t get enough of ridiculous 1980’s pop songs anyway, I decided to go ahead and hire the ’80’s cover band, Gonzo’s Nose. I figure this way everyone will have fun and dance their asses off. And the great thing is that these guys and gal can even throw in a little Sinatra etc. here and there for the older folks. Then everyone is happy.

I pulled this picture off of the Gonzo’s Nose website…nice.
